Coffee Shop Community Creation

Taking over a coffee shop by the student community, I was put in charge, during the Fall 2015, with a comity of directors, professors, and members of the Student Council, to re-create the menu offer, the production organisation, the visual and marketing of the enterprise, managing the new team (schedules, hiring, daily openings and closings, training), rearranging, repainting, decorating the dining room with green walls, organising activities in it to stimulate the community life it created. The creation of a communal yet capitalist food counter was a long, huge creation and teamwork responsability.

Like Daniel Spoerri before me with his Spoerri Restaurant, central for the movement Eat Art, the space was also used for food-related events in the building situated at 3535 rue St-Denis, within the cooking school ITHQ.

Projet de rénovation du café étudiant, reprise par les étudiants de l'entreprise sous la supervision d'un comité de directeurs (plan affaire et suivi hebdomadaire). Suite un an plus tard,  du comité café étudiant avec les délégués du comité environnemental, le club Entrepreneur, la responsable du café étudiant et certains membres du comité exécutif de l'AGEE.

Points positifs:    

    -Les projets ont très bien avancé pour améliorer le milieu de vie du café            

    -Il y a une grande présence d'étudiants durant les heures de cours au café

    -Emploi étudiant accessible, initiative étudiante encouragée

    -Radio étudiante compressée

    -Murs décorés de photos : sentiment d'appartenance

    -Mur végétaux: initiative environnementale

    -Luminosité accrue, piano présent

Points négatifs:    

    -Aucune/rare présence étudiante après les heures de cours

    -Perte de la fontaine d'eau

    -Saleté de l'espace salle à manger

    -Difficile d'avoir des rencontres régulières à long terme

Many projects, such as a green wall, annual celebrations decoration (Halloween, Christmas, April's fools, ...) and student life activities (cooking or cocktail competitions, zen days activities, conferences, meetings,...) were organised there by my team and I.
